Njeno ime dobesedno pomeni vodna mati.<\/p><p>Gre za finsko-ugrsko vodno bo\u017eanstvo, kakr\u0161no se pojavlja pri ve\u010d finsko-ugrskih ljudstvih, ki so tradicionalno odvisna od ribolova, in ustreza estonski Vete-emi ter finski vodni materi. V mitologiji Erzjanov in Mok\u0161anov je trdno vpeta v pripovedno izro\u010dilo, na primer v snubitev vodne boginje s strani podzemnega in zemeljskega boga Simbolno predstavlja dvojno naravo vode, po eni strani rodovitnost in hrano, po drugi pa smrt v utopitvi.<\/p><p><strong>Delovanje<\/strong><\/p><p>Ved-ava spodbuja rodovitnost pri ljudeh in \u017eivini ter odlo\u010da o ribolovu. Njen pogled pa napoveduje nesre\u010do, praviloma utopitev. S tem je ambivalentna, hkrati skrbna gospodarica in smrtna nevarnost.
