K\u0148az oble\u010den\u00fd v bielom ju odrezal na \u0161iesty de\u0148 mesa\u010dn\u00e9ho cyklu zlat\u00fdm kos\u00e1kom, druh\u00fd zachytil vetvi\u010dky do bieleho pl\u00e1tna, aby sa nedotkli zeme. Kontakt so \u017eelezom a zemou by pod\u013ea v\u00fdkladu jej silu zmen\u0161il.<\/p><p>V nemeckojazy\u010dnej a severoeur\u00f3pskej \u013eudovej vier\u0435 sa omela oddelila od keltsk\u00e9ho k\u0148azsk\u00e9ho \u00fakonu a stala sa ro\u013en\u00edckym dom\u00e1cim prostriedkom: vetvi\u010dka zavesen\u00e1 nad prahom dver\u00ed alebo v stajni mala chr\u00e1ni\u0165 dom a dobytok pred bleskom, oh\u0148om, \u010darodejn\u00edctvom a d\u00e9monick\u00fdm vplyvom. V niektor\u00fdch regi\u00f3noch sa s omelou sp\u00e1ja prez\u00fdvka \u201ehromov\u00e1 metla\u201c, pri\u010dom tento n\u00e1zov sa inde pou\u017e\u00edva aj pre metlovit\u00e9 zrastenie vetiev na stromoch, ktor\u00e9 vznik\u00e1 napadnut\u00edm hubou; obe javy sa v trad\u00edcii niekedy zamie\u0148ali, inokedy z\u00e1merne rozli\u0161ovali.<\/p><p>K zimn\u00e9mu slnovratu a na jul, sviatok seversk\u00fdch kraj\u00edn, patrilo zavesenie vetvi\u010dky omely v dome medzi pevn\u00e9 zvyky. V pr\u00edbehu o bohu Baldrovi je omela jedinou rastlinou, ktor\u00e1 neprisahala, \u017ee mu neubl\u00ed\u017ei, a preto sa st\u00e1va jedinou zbra\u0148ou, ktor\u00e1 ho m\u00f4\u017ee zrani\u0165. Tento pr\u00edbeh zd\u00f4raz\u0148uje v\u00fdnimo\u010dn\u00e9 postavenie rastliny mimo v\u0161etk\u00fdch be\u017en\u00fdch z\u00e1v\u00e4zkov.<\/p><p>V Anglicku a vo ve\u013ekej \u010dasti severnej Eur\u00f3py je zimn\u00fd zvyk zavesi\u0165 vetvi\u010dky omely v dome \u017eiv\u00fd dodnes, hoci p\u00f4vodn\u00e1 ochrann\u00e1 my\u0161lienka ust\u00fapila do pozadia v prospech zvyku spojen\u00e9ho s l\u00e1skou a \u0161\u0165ast\u00edm.
