Il suo nome lo indica come essere dell&#8217;aria e del cielo; tuttavia, nell&#8217;epica \u00e8 principalmente l&#8217;eroe fabbro.<\/p>\n<p>La fonte centrale \u00e8 il Kalevala, il poema epico nazionale che Elias L\u00f6nnrot compil\u00f2 nel 1835 e nel 1849 a partire dalla tradizione orale dei canti runici, oltre a canti magici ed incantatori pi\u00f9 antichi, nei quali Ilmarinen viene L&#8217;etimologia e lo strato pi\u00f9 antico lo indicano come divinit\u00e0 dell&#8217;aria e del cielo, creatore del cielo; nel controllo del tempo atmosferico fu in parte sovrapposto dal dio del tuono e del tempo Ukko.
