Ime potje\u010de od savojsko-francuskog izraza barbe glac\u00e9e, zale\u0111ena brada, koji imenuje najupe\u010datljiviju zna\u010dajku ovog lika.<\/p><p>Za razliku od mnogih alpskih predaja, Barbegazi je u klasi\u010dnim zbirkama predaja iz 19. stolje\u0107a te\u0161ko dokaziv, a svoju dana\u0161nju poznatost duguje uglavnom novijim prepri\u010davanjima. Njegova najva\u017enija zna\u010dajka su izrazito prevelika stopala, koja slu\u017ee kao prirodne krplje i omogu\u0107uju mu da bez napora klizi po dubokom snijegu ili se spu\u0161ta niz lavine. Ljeti se povla\u010di u \u0161pilje i tamo po\u010diva sve do prvog snijega.<\/p><p><strong>Djelovanje<\/strong><\/p><p>Prema predaji Barbegazi se spu\u0161ta s lavinama bez da pritom strada, te zvi\u017edi ili doziva da bi upozorio putnike na nadolaze\u0107u opasnost od lavine. Zatrpanima navodno poma\u017ee pri iskopavanju, ali prema ljudima ostaje pla\u0161ljiv i izbjegava izravan kontakt.
