protecteurs et gardiens des lieux animistes des Khmers, qui veillent sur la terre, le village, les champs, la for\u00eat, les arbres, les rivi\u00e8res et les montagnes. On leur apporte des offrandes \u00e0 de petits sanctuaires ; ils prot\u00e8gent la communaut\u00e9 tant qu&rsquo;on leur t\u00e9moigne le respect qui leur est d\u00fb.<\/p>\n<p>La v\u00e9n\u00e9ration est pr\u00e9existante au bouddhisme, mais elle se combine sans rupture avec le bouddhisme therav\u0101da : le Bouddha et la communaut\u00e9 monastique orientent vers la lib\u00e9ration, tandis que les esprits du lieu s&rsquo;occupent des soucis quotidiens comme la r\u00e9colte, la maladie et la protection.
