Cette figure est un exemple typique de personnage d&rsquo;avertissement qui transforme un danger r\u00e9el en une personne.<\/p>\n<p>Elle est attest\u00e9e depuis le XIXe si\u00e8cle dans le Lancashire, le Cheshire, le Merseyside et le Shropshire, le plus souvent comme menace adress\u00e9e aux enfants curieux pr\u00e8s des mares de village et des carri\u00e8res de marne inond\u00e9es et abandonn\u00e9es. Le danger de l&rsquo;eau elle-m\u00eame recevait ainsi un nom et un visage : des dents vertes plut\u00f4t qu&rsquo;un simple avertissement contre une eau profonde et envahie de
