\u00e9cossais d\u00e9signant tout ce qui inspire la peur : \u00e9pouvantail, farfadet, fant\u00f4me, diable et m\u00eame l&rsquo;\u00e9pouvantail devenu vivant rel\u00e8vent de ce nom. En tant que figure de peur diffuse, il servait surtout de croquemitaine pour imposer l&rsquo;ob\u00e9issance aux enfants.<\/p>\n<p>Contrairement aux pr\u00e9sages de mort gallois et \u00e9cossais de la tradition celtique, le Wirry-cow n&rsquo;annonce aucune mort. Cette repr\u00e9sentation est r\u00e9pandue dans les Lowlands \u00e9cossaises et dans le nord de l&rsquo;Angleterre, attest\u00e9e dans des dictionnaires et chez Sir Walter
