Volkert Haas a montr\u00e9 dans <em>Geschichte der hethitischen Religion<\/em> (1994) qu&rsquo;il \u00e9tait \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine le dieu de la ville de Kummanni en Kizzuwatna et qu&rsquo;au cours des XIV<sup>e<\/sup> et XIII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cles av. J.-C. il s&rsquo;\u00e9leva au rang de dieu protecteur central des grands rois hittites.<\/p><p>Au sein de la <a href=\"\/fr\/religion-hittite\/\">tradition hittite<\/a>, il est le dieu protecteur le plus \u00e9minent de la p\u00e9riode du Nouvel Empire.<\/p><p>Son profil dans l&rsquo;histoire des religions est celui d&rsquo;un \u00ab fils divin \u00bb et d&rsquo;un dieu protecteur personnel : il ne se trouve pas au sommet du panth\u00e9on, mais il entretient un lien particuli\u00e8rement \u00e9troit avec le grand roi.<\/p><p>Tud\u1e2baliya IV se disait \u00ab Bien-aim\u00e9 de Sarruma \u00bb et se fit repr\u00e9senter \u00e0 Yaz\u0131l\u0131kaya, chambre B, dans les bras de Sarruma en geste d&rsquo;\u00e9treinte protectrice. Cette formule iconique est l&rsquo;une des images de protection les plus importantes de l&rsquo;art du Proche-Orient ancien.<\/p><p>Trevor Bryce a soulign\u00e9 dans <em>The Kingdom of the Hittites<\/em> (2005) la signification politico-religieuse de cette relation personnelle avec un dieu : Sarruma symbolise l&rsquo;hourritisation de la th\u00e9ologie royale hittite au XIII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle av. J.-C. La reine Pudu\u1e2bepa et son fils Tud\u1e2baliya IV firent de l&rsquo;hourritisme la religion d&rsquo;\u00c9tat \u00e0 un degr\u00e9 sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent dans l&rsquo;Empire hittite.<\/p><p>Une particularit\u00e9 remarquable de Sarruma est sa double fonction de <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"Un \u00eatre v\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 comme divin au sein d'une religion.\" tabindex=\"0\">divinit\u00e9<\/span> montagnarde et de dieu protecteur personnel du roi. Cette union du sacr\u00e9 naturel et de la religion de cour est rare dans l&rsquo;histoire des religions du Proche-Orient ancien et fait de lui l&rsquo;une des figures th\u00e9ologiquement les plus int\u00e9ressantes du panth\u00e9on hourrito-hittite. \u00c0 la fin du XIII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle av. J.-C., son <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"L'ensemble des actes d'adoration religieuse rendus \u00e0 une divinit\u00e9 ou \u00e0 une figure sacr\u00e9e.\" tabindex=\"0\">culte<\/span> atteignit son apog\u00e9e sous Tud\u1e2baliya IV.<\/p><p>Dans le corpus hi\u00e9roglyphique louvite, plusieurs figures royales portent l&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e9ment th\u00e9ophore \u00ab \u0160arruma \u00bb (par ex. Sarruma-DEUS, Sarruma-fils-XY), ce qui t\u00e9moigne de la vitalit\u00e9 de son culte au I<sup>er<\/sup> mill\u00e9naire av. Sarruma serait alors \u00ab le royal \u00bb, \u00ab celui qui appartient \u00e0 la royaut\u00e9 \u00bb. Volkert Haas et Daniel Schwemer ont discut\u00e9 cette \u00e9tymologie comme probable.<\/p><p>Dans les textes cun\u00e9iformes, il appara\u00eet sous les formes <em>\u0160ar-ru-ma<\/em>, <em>\u0160ar-ru-um-ma<\/em> ; en louvite hi\u00e9roglyphique sous la forme \u00ab TUTELARY+ra\/i-ma \u00bb (le logogramme TUTELARY renvoie \u00e0 sa fonction de dieu protecteur). En akkadien, il n&rsquo;est pas facilement identifi\u00e9 ; son caract\u00e8re hourrite reste clairement reconnaissable.<\/p><p>Une seconde \u00e9tymologie rattache le nom \u00e0 un nom de montagne \u00ab \u0160arruma \u00bb en Kizzuwatna ; Sarruma serait alors \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine une divinit\u00e9 montagnarde et seulement secondairement un dieu protecteur royal.<\/p><p>Les deux \u00e9tymologies sont probablement compatibles : dieu d&rsquo;une montagne nomm\u00e9e \u0160arruma, dont le nom renvoie ensuite \u00e0 \u00ab roi \u00bb. Il porte une courte jupe, une haute tiare pointue et une hache de guerre.<\/p><p>Dans la chambre B, il appara\u00eet dans une sc\u00e8ne unique : il enlace le grand roi Tud\u1e2baliya IV de son bras droit, son propre visage plac\u00e9 contre celui du roi. Cette formule iconographique est connue sous le nom d&rsquo;\u00ab \u00e9treinte divine \u00bb et est consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme l&rsquo;incorporation visuelle de la protection royale.<\/p><p>Son animal sacr\u00e9 est le l\u00e9opard ou la panth\u00e8re, qu&rsquo;il partage avec sa m\u00e8re Hebat. Dans les reliefs n\u00e9o-hittites de Karkami\u0161 et d&rsquo;autres sites, il appara\u00eet fr\u00e9quemment comme un jeune dieu en marche, portant hache et sceptre. Sur les sceaux royaux de Tud\u1e2baliya, son logogramme appara\u00eet aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s du nom royal, formule iconographique du lien direct entre le roi et son dieu protecteur.<\/p><p>Une particularit\u00e9 est son identification \u00e0 une montagne sacr\u00e9e. L&rsquo;identit\u00e9 de la montagne et du dieu est un concept anatolien archa\u00efque qui fut syst\u00e9matiquement \u00e9labor\u00e9 dans la <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"La doctrine savante sur Dieu et sur la foi d'une religion.\" tabindex=\"0\">th\u00e9ologie<\/span> hittite.<\/p><p>La tradition iconographique se perp\u00e9tue dans les cit\u00e9s-\u00c9tats n\u00e9o-hittites de Karkami\u0161, Mara\u015f, Malatya et Tabal jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 la fin du VIII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle av. Les \u00ab formules de serment de Sarruma \u00bb sont conserv\u00e9es dans des trait\u00e9s de vassalit\u00e9 ; elles l&rsquo;associent \u00e0 <a href=\"\/fr\/teshub\/\">Teshub<\/a> et \u00e0 <a href=\"\/fr\/hebat\/\">Hebat<\/a> en une triade. Dans le calendrier festif hourrite, il dispose de jours d&rsquo;offrandes qui lui sont propres, lors desquels on lui offre principalement du pain, de la bi\u00e8re, du vin et de la viande d&rsquo;agneau.<\/p><p>Sur le plan de l&rsquo;histoire des religions, son adoption par Tud\u1e2baliya IV est remarquable. Le roi fit de Sarruma son \u00ab dieu favori \u00bb personnel et instaura un culte de cour particulier, attest\u00e9 dans les textes sous le nom de <em>(L\u00da)SANGA \u0160arruma<\/em> (\u00ab pr\u00eatre de Sarruma \u00bb).<\/p><p>Itamar Singer a trait\u00e9 en d\u00e9tail cette personnalisation du culte divin dans <em>Hittite Prayers<\/em> (2002). La relation personnelle entre dieu et homme \u00e0 la fin de l&rsquo;Empire est un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne historique important, qui vint compl\u00e9ter la religion d&rsquo;\u00c9tat abstraite par une <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"L'attitude et la pratique religieuse v\u00e9cue d'un individu.\" tabindex=\"0\">pi\u00e9t\u00e9<\/span> imm\u00e9diate.<\/p><p>Une formule de serment particuli\u00e8re des trait\u00e9s de vassalit\u00e9 conclus avec Tud\u1e2baliya IV nomme Sarruma comme troisi\u00e8me membre divin d&rsquo;une triade hourrite apr\u00e8s Teshub et Hebat. Tud\u1e2baliya IV institua une nouvelle \u00ab f\u00eate de Sarruma \u00bb, cr\u00e9\u00e9e sp\u00e9cialement pour la v\u00e9n\u00e9ration personnelle du dieu et comprenant des instructions rituelles d\u00e9taill\u00e9es.<\/p><p>Une particularit\u00e9 est son statut de dieu protecteur du roi dans les inscriptions hi\u00e9roglyphiques louvites de la p\u00e9riode tardive et post-hittite. \u00c0 Karkami\u0161 et \u00e0 Mara\u015f, il appara\u00eet comme dieu protecteur royal jusqu&rsquo;au VIII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle av. D&rsquo;un point de vue savant, sa fonction de \u00ab dieu de cour \u00bb est remarquable : il repr\u00e9sente la personnalisation de la relation dieu-homme au plus haut niveau politique. L&rsquo;iWell Guard le consid\u00e8re comme une figure historique et non comme un destinataire actuel de protection. L&rsquo;inscription identifie le dieu comme \u0160arruma.<\/p><p>Cette \u00ab sc\u00e8ne d&rsquo;\u00e9treinte \u00bb est historiquement instructive, car elle rend tangible la relation entre le dieu protecteur et le souverain. \u0160arruma appara\u00eet ici comme le dieu protecteur personnel de Tudhalija IV, pour ainsi dire comme son soutien divin qui le guide et le prot\u00e8ge.
