La plus haute charge sacerdotale \u00e9tait ainsi associ\u00e9e \u00e0 la supervision de l&rsquo;artisanat.<\/p><p>Les ateliers memphites jouissaient d&rsquo;un grand prestige, et Ptah, en tant que leur dieu, y avait sa part. L&rsquo;un des noms du temple de Ptah \u00e0 Memphis contenait, dans une de ses formes, le mot \u00e9gyptien d\u00e9signant l&rsquo;\u00e2me de Ptah.<\/p><p>Une partie de la recherche fait d\u00e9river de cette d\u00e9signation le nom grec Aigyptos et donc notre mot \u00c9gypte. Dans cette union se combinaient la puissance cr\u00e9atrice de Ptah et les conceptions de la mort, du renouveau et de la survie.<\/p><p>Cette figure se manifeste surtout \u00e0 travers un groupe particulier d&rsquo;objets fun\u00e9raires, les statuettes dites de Ptah-Sokar-Osiris. Elles sont conserv\u00e9es en grand nombre \u00e0 partir de la Basse \u00c9poque, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement sous forme de figurines en bois peint \u00e0 l&rsquo;aspect momifi\u00e9, souvent sur un socle parfois creus\u00e9 pour accueillir un papyrus ou une bandelette de texte.<\/p><p>Ces figurines \u00e9taient d\u00e9pos\u00e9es dans les tombes et devaient participer \u00e0 la protection et au renouveau du d\u00e9funt.<\/p><p>L&rsquo;existence d&rsquo;une telle figure li\u00e9e au monde des morts montre que Ptah ne fut pas cantonn\u00e9 au r\u00f4le de dieu du monde et de l&rsquo;artisanat. La religion \u00e9gyptienne tendait \u00e0 placer les dieux dans de nouveaux contextes par association et assimilation, sans que les figures originelles disparaissent pour autant.<\/p><p>Ptah pouvait ainsi \u00eatre \u00e0 la fois le cr\u00e9ateur par la parole, le protecteur des artisans et une partie du monde divin des morts.
