Fue venerado en el Oriente Pr\u00f3ximo y en el Egipto fara\u00f3nico como una potencia ambivalente: portador de enfermedad y muerte, y al mismo tiempo dios protector contra estos data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Reshef pertenece a los dioses m\u00e1s antiguos de la tradici\u00f3n sem\u00edtica occidental; est\u00e1 documentado desde la \u00e9poca siria antigua (finales del tercer milenio a. C.) en Ebla y permanece activo hasta el per\u00edodo helen\u00edstico-romano.<\/p><p>Sabatino Moscati ha demostrado en <em>Die Ph\u00f6niker<\/em> (1966) que Reshef desempe\u00f1a un papel importante en casi todas las ciudades-estado fenicias; su perfil como dios de la peste y de la guerra lo hace ambivalente, temido y al mismo tiempo invocado en busca de ayuda.<\/p><p>Paolo Xella ha estudiado en <em>I testi rituali di Ugarit<\/em> (1981) y Maciej M\u00fcnnich en <em>The God Resheph<\/em> (2013) los textos de Reshef de forma exhaustiva. La monograf\u00eda de M\u00fcnnich es el estudio moderno m\u00e1s detallado sobre este dios y constituye la referencia est\u00e1ndar. Dentro de la <a href=\"\/es\/phoenizisch\/\">tradici\u00f3n fenicia<\/a>, Reshef es el dios ambivalente protot\u00edpico de la enfermedad y la muerte violenta.<\/p><p>Desde el punto de vista de la historia de las religiones, Reshef pertenece a la familia internacional de los dioses de la &#8216;flecha de la peste&#8217;, que aparecen en casi todas las mitolog\u00edas del Oriente Pr\u00f3ximo: Erra\/Nergal en Mesopotamia, aspectos de dios de la peste del griego Apolo, el hitita Yarri y varios m\u00e1s. Estos dioses env\u00edan flechas que traen enfermedad y muerte, pero tambi\u00e9n pueden ser invocados para protegerse de estos males. Esta ambivalencia es el rasgo clave del perfil de Reshef.<\/p><p>Una particularidad notable de Reshef es su vinculaci\u00f3n con el caballo: en textos ugar\u00edticos se le denomina ocasionalmente &#8216;Reshef de los caballos&#8217;, lo que posiblemente alude a una funci\u00f3n como dios protector de las tropas de carros de combate. Una interpretaci\u00f3n plausible lo vincula con la ra\u00edz <em>r\u0161p<\/em> &#8216;llama, rel\u00e1mpago, chispa&#8217;, lo que concordar\u00eda con su iconograf\u00eda de flecha y peste. En hebreo aparece <em>re\u0161ef<\/em> como sustantivo para &#8216;flecha&#8217; o &#8216;enfermedad \u00edgnea&#8217; (Dt 32,24; Job 5,7; Cant 8,6), una herencia sem\u00e1ntica directa.<\/p><p>En las inscripciones aparece como <em>r\u0161p<\/em>, frecuentemente con ep\u00edtetos: Reshef-Hagab (&#8216;Reshef de la langosta&#8217;), Reshef-Mlk (&#8216;Reshef el rey&#8217;), Reshef-\u0160uluman (&#8216;Reshef de la paz&#8217;). Esta variedad de ep\u00edtetos refleja sus m\u00faltiples hip\u00f3stasis en diferentes contextos locales. En Ebla aparece ya en el siglo XXIV a. C.; en Ugarit es un dios prominente.<\/p><p>En Egipto aparece desde el Imperio Nuevo como &#8216;Reshep&#8217;, importado al <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"El conjunto de los dioses de una religi\u00f3n o cultura.\" tabindex=\"0\">pante\u00f3n<\/span> egipcio. El fara\u00f3n Amenhotep II (siglo XV a. C.) lo vener\u00f3 como dios de la guerra y del arco; en numerosas estelas del \u00e1rea de Tebas aparece como un guerrero barbado con casco y arco.<\/p><p>La veneraci\u00f3n egipcia de Reshef es un notable logro de importaci\u00f3n en la historia de las religiones y ha sido tratada detalladamente en los estudios de Izak Cornelius (<em>The Iconography of the Canaanite Gods Reshef and Ba\u02bfal<\/em>, 1994).<\/p><p>Tambi\u00e9n en el material arameo del primer milenio a. C. aparece Reshef en varias inscripciones, como en la <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"Una placa de piedra o madera, erigida verticalmente, con inscripciones o im\u00e1genes.\" tabindex=\"0\">estela<\/span> de Bar-Rakib de Sam&#8217;al (siglo VIII a. C.). Esta tradici\u00f3n aramea de Reshef muestra la persistencia de su veneraci\u00f3n en la <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"\u00c9poca prehist\u00f3rica posterior a la Edad del Bronce, caracterizada por el trabajo del hierro.\" tabindex=\"0\">Edad del Hierro<\/span>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-iwgw-reshef-s2 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"iwgw-reshef-s2\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-iwgw-reshef-s2h elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"iwgw-reshef-s2h\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Descripci\u00f3n e iconograf\u00eda<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-iwgw-reshef-s2c e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"iwgw-reshef-s2c\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-iwgw-reshef-s2t elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"iwgw-reshef-s2t\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Reshef aparece en la iconograf\u00eda sem\u00edtica occidental y egipcia como un hombre barbado con faldell\u00edn corto, casco o gorro c\u00f3nico alto, sosteniendo en una mano un arco o una hacha de combate, y en la otra una lanza o un escudo.<\/p><p>Una caracter\u00edstica tradici\u00f3n iconogr\u00e1fica lo muestra con una flecha en la mano alzada, listo para disparar; otro tipo iconogr\u00e1fico lo representa con una cabeza de gacela en la frente.<\/p><p>Su animal sagrado es la gacela; en algunas representaciones cabalga sobre una gacela o sujeta una por la cornamenta. La gacela es hist\u00f3ricamente significativa desde el punto de vista religioso: representa la rapidez de las flechas de la peste y la fugacidad de la enfermedad. El caballo y el toro aparecen tambi\u00e9n ocasionalmente como sus animales acompa\u00f1antes.<\/p><p>En Egipto, Reshef fue representado frecuentemente junto a Min (dios egipcio de la fertilidad) y Qadeshet (diosa sem\u00edtica del amor, emparentada con Astarte) como tr\u00edada; esta &#8216;tr\u00edada Reshef-Min-Qadeshet&#8217; aparece en varias estelas de Menfis y Tanis. En inscripciones fenicias se le invoca como dios de la peste y la guerra, sin trasfondo mitol\u00f3gico.<\/p><p>Una narraci\u00f3n fragmentaria vincula a Reshef con las &#8216;Siete Flechas&#8217;, que \u00e9l env\u00eda contra los enemigos de Israel (seg\u00fan el material hebreo) o contra los enemigos de los fenicios (en textos sem\u00edticos occidentales).<\/p><p>En el libro hebreo de Habacuc (Hab 3,5) Reshef aparece como acompa\u00f1ante de Yahv\u00e9, que marcha ante el guerrero divino: &#8216;Delante de \u00e9l va la peste, y Reshef sigue sus pasos.&#8217; Esta doble aparici\u00f3n es hist\u00f3ricamente muy reveladora y muestra la persistencia de las concepciones sobre Reshef en la tradici\u00f3n po\u00e9tica hebrea.<\/p><p>En el Poema de Aqhat y en el Poema de Keret, Reshef es invocado ocasionalmente sin aparecer como personaje activo. Los faraones de la \u00e9poca ram\u00e9sida gustaban de ser representados en la proximidad de Reshef, pues era considerado un dios guerrero y poderoso.<\/p><p>En las estelas egipcias, donadas en su mayor\u00eda por particulares, Reshef aparece con una iconograf\u00eda fija: un dios en actitud de marcha con el brazo alzado, blandiendo una maza o un hacha, frecuentemente con un escudo y una lanza, y en la cabeza la corona del Alto Egipto, en cuya frente aparece a menudo una cabeza de gacela en lugar de la serpiente ureo.<\/p><p>Esta cabeza de gacela es considerada uno de los rasgos de identificaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s fiables.<\/p><p>En Egipto su funci\u00f3n se transform\u00f3. Del dios que trae la epidemia y la muerte s\u00fabita surgi\u00f3 al mismo tiempo un dios al que se acud\u00eda en busca de protecci\u00f3n y curaci\u00f3n. Esto ocurri\u00f3 en parte dentro de un grupo junto a la diosa Qadeshu y el dios Min.
