In the West Semitic world, Ba\u02bfal was not a proper name but a title applied to various local deities.<\/p><p>Best known is the Ugaritic storm god Ba\u02bfal, whose myths are preserved on the clay tablets from Ras Shamra. Beyond him there were the Ba\u02bfal of Tyre, the Ba\u02bfal-Hammon of Carthage, and numerous local deities who each counted as lord of their <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"The totality of religious acts of veneration for a deity or sacred figure.\" tabindex=\"0\">cult<\/span> site.<\/p><p>In the grimoire tradition the figure appears as Bael; in popular culture also as Baal or Bhaal.
