In this way the orishas were in part associated with Catholic saints. This association made it possible to continue the inherited veneration under the appearance of Catholic piety<\/span>.<\/p>

The name Santer\u00eda points to this combination. A more apt designation, preferred by many adherents, is Regla de Ocha, or the religion of the orishas.<\/p>
