Blavatsky, teacher of the golden ray.<\/p><h2 id=\"dif-kuthumi\">Theosophical placement of Kuthumi<\/h2><p>Kuthumi (also Koot Hoomi) first appears in the <strong>Mahatma Letters<\/strong> (1880-1885) addressed to Alfred Percy Sinnett. Helena Petrovna <strong>Blavatsky<\/strong> identifies him as one of the &#8220;Masters of Wisdom&#8221; of the <strong>Theosophical Society<\/strong>, residing in the Himalayan <strong>Brotherhood of Shigatse<\/strong> (Tibet).<\/p><p>Charles Webster Leadbeater expands the identification in <em>The Masters and the Path<\/em> (1925) to a historical Kashmiri <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"In Hinduism the absolute, formless, attributeless being; reflected in the Upanishads as the ground of all appearances.\" tabindex=\"0\">Brahman<\/span>.<\/p><p>In the later <strong>Ascended Master teaching<\/strong> of the I-AM movement (Guy and Edna Ballard, 1930s) and the Summit Lighthouse (Mark and Elizabeth Clare Prophet, 1970s), Kuthumi becomes the hierarchy teacher of the Second Ray (ray of wisdom). Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and Annie Besant claimed to be in telepathic correspondence with Kuthumi (the so-called Mahatma Letters).<\/p><p>In Helena Roerich&#8217;s writings Kuthumi is described as a master of wisdom whose radiance works in particular on the integration of East and West. The tradition sometimes identifies Kuthumi with the historical Buddha or a similarly elevated being, a claim that is scholarly disputed but remains significant within the esoteric understanding.<\/p><h3>Source situation<\/h3><p>Primary sources: the Mahatma Letters (published 1923), Helena Roerich&#8217;s diaries and letters. Energetically, Kuthumi feels warm, intelligent and loving at once, like sunlight that also warms. His golden-white energy opens the heart to universal love and the <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"An incorporeal being to which effects in the world are attributed.\" tabindex=\"0\">mind<\/span> to cosmic truth.<\/p><div><h3>Function and assigned ray<\/h3><p>In the modern lightworker tradition, Kuthumi is the ascended master of the second ray (love-wisdom, golden-yellow) and is regarded as a teacher of inner enlightenment, education and spiritual transmission of knowledge.<\/p><p>He is often named as a world teacher alongside Maitreya; in the more recent Saint Germain Foundation tradition he is listed as one of the Chohan masters within the seven-ray system.
