It supplements what is known through <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"The era of Greek and Roman culture, roughly 800 BCE to 600 CE.\" tabindex=\"0\">classical<\/span> sources, written <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"The transmission of knowledge and narratives across generations.\" tabindex=\"0\">tradition<\/span>, archaeological evidence, ethnographic observation, scientific measurement. It does not replace them. Concretely, this means perceptions in the form of images, sensations, voices, bodily resonances, or <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"A sign that stands representatively for a concept or meaning.\" tabindex=\"0\">symbolic<\/span> impressions that do not stem from the five classical senses.<\/p><p>The term is deliberately broad. It encompasses both the controlled mediumistic work of trained practitioners, with preparation, threshold crossing, and documented protocol, and spontaneous impressions of sensitive wearers of the protective pendant. What unites both types of experience is the claim to perceive something that reaches beyond ordinary consciousness. This labeling is binding: no statement presented as historically documented relies on mediumistically gathered data without a corresponding note.<\/p><p>Conversely, we also make transparent where we rely on historically and philologically or archaeologically documented sources. We offer it as an additional perspective that arises within experiential practice and stands deliberately alongside other sources.<\/p><p>Wherever you read &#8220;mediumistic&#8221; or &#8220;examined in the cosmic information field&#8221; in our texts, you know: this statement stems from a subtle perceptual practice and is not documented in the sense of classical science.<\/p><p>This differentiation is not a shortcoming but a methodological virtue. These sources are linked directly, ideally to the Internet Archive or to the publisher, and cited by name.<\/p><p><strong>Second tier:<\/strong> ethnographic and religious-studies observation, field studies, dictionaries of <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"The body of transmitted narratives about the gods of a culture.\" tabindex=\"0\">mythology<\/span>, standard works such as the <em>Handw\u00f6rterbuch des deutschen Aberglaubens<\/em> or the <em>Encyclopedia of <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"The academic discipline that studies religions comparatively and without confessional commitment.\" tabindex=\"0\">Religion<\/span><\/em>.<\/p><p><strong>Third tier:<\/strong> findings on reception history, how a figure lives on in modern culture (pop, film, genre literature). <strong>Fourth tier:<\/strong> mediumistically gathered observations, which are explicitly labeled as such.<\/p><p>This tiering says nothing about truth status, but rather about the kind of validity being claimed. A philologically documented statement about Ovid&#8217;s description of the Lemuria claims a different kind of validity than a mediumistically gathered observation about the effect of a protective <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"A sacred syllable or formula repeatedly spoken in Hinduism and Buddhism.\" tabindex=\"0\">mantra<\/span>. Nor is it a promise of salvation. We make neither mediumistic diagnoses that replace medical diagnosis, nor do we promise healing through mediumistic intervention. The mediumistic practice we work with is a method of self-reflection and experience-based perception, not a therapeutic alternative.<\/p><p>This delimitation is present on every detail page of the Methodology section: for acute health problems we refer to medical care; for acute psychological crises to the appropriate support systems. Mediumistic work is conceived as a supplementary, not a replacing, practice.<\/p><h3>Source Hierarchy in Practice<\/h3><p>A concrete example: on the page about <a href=\"\/en\/lemures\/\">Lemures<\/a> we describe the Roman Lemuria <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"A fixed, recurring religious act.\" tabindex=\"0\">rite<\/span> on the basis of Ovid&#8217;s <em>Fasti<\/em> V (479, 492). That is tier 1, directly cited, with reference to the critical edition.<\/p><p>We then describe the religious-historical classification within the context of Roman <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"The totality of religious acts of veneration for a deity or sacred figure.\" tabindex=\"0\">cult<\/span> of the dead, tier 2, with reference to standard works such as John Scheid&#8217;s <em>Religion und <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"The lived religious attitude and practice of a person.\" tabindex=\"0\">Fr\u00f6mmigkeit<\/span> der R\u00f6mer<\/em>.<\/p><p>We mention the modern reception in film and literature, tier 3. And we refer, where relevant, to mediumistically gathered observations on the effectiveness of traditional Lemures-warding practices, tier 4, explicitly labeled.<\/p><p>In this way a layered presentation emerges: every reader can enter at any level, depending on their own disposition toward knowledge. The reader oriented toward religious studies will skip tier 4; the reader familiar with mediumistic practice will regard it as central. Both find on the page what they are looking for.<\/p><h3>What We Do Not Do<\/h3><p>We do not pass off pseudo-scientific language as science. We do not mix mediumistically gathered statements with philologically documented facts. We make no promises about mediumistic &#8220;guarantees&#8221; or &#8220;absolute protective effectiveness&#8221;. We do not claim that mediumistic perceptions are the only or the highest form of knowledge.<\/p><p>What we do is far more modest, but, we hope, more durable in the long run: we disclose the sources of our statements, label the kind of validity being claimed, and leave the evaluation to our readers.<\/p><h3>Mediumistic Practice and Critical Reflection<\/h3><p>An honest mediumistic practice lives from two movements that belong together: trust in one&#8217;s own perception and critical reflection on sources of error. Trust, because otherwise the practice never gets going at all.<\/p><p>Critical reflection, because mediumistic perception, like any other perception, is prone to error: distorted by expectation, colored by transference, overlaid by one&#8217;s own psychological components. Whoever fails to bring the two together ends up either in uncritical enthusiasm or in blanket rejection, both of which render the practice meaningless.<\/p><h3>Mediumistic Information and Collective Layers of Meaning<\/h3><p>An additional layer not explicitly listed in the source hierarchy, but which becomes important in practice, is the collective history of meaning of a class of beings.<\/p><p>When Jewish rabbinic tradition understands Lilith as a threat to women in childbed, Akkadian incantation tablets understand <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"Mesopotamian demoness regarded as a threat to pregnant women and newborns.\" tabindex=\"0\">Lamashtu<\/span> as a child-endangering <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"A spiritual being to which harmful or ambivalent influence is attributed.\" tabindex=\"0\">demon<\/span>, and Roman texts of Ovid understand Lemures as restless dead, then this is more than an enumeration of historical statements.<\/p><p>It is a cross-cultural tradition of observation in which certain types of experience are described identically or similarly over centuries.<\/p><p>We take this convergence not as proof but as a methodological indication. Where independent traditions arrive at similar descriptions, the probability is higher that they are aiming at a real experiential substance, even if its ontological status remains open.
