Travel guides usually write it as Apu Veronica, and the Spanish name has come to overlay the older Quechua name.<\/p>\n<p>The mountain rises as a snow-white pyramid above the valley at the M\u00e1laga Pass and is regarded as the guardian of the Cordillera Urubamba.
