Maent yn wahanol i uwch-dduwiau am eu bod yn arbenigol ac yn hygyrch yn bersonol.<\/p><p>Gall dyn cyffredin wedd\u00efo i Bes a gobeithio am gymorth uniongyrchol; mae hynny&#8217;n llai personol yn achos Zeus. Yn wahanol i dduwiau&#8217;r meirw sy&#8217;n niwtral, mae gan dduwiau gwarcheidwadol deyrngarwch a ffafriaeth glir. Mae rhai yn gyntefig, mae eraill wedi tarddu o addoliad dynol.<\/p><div><p><strong>Dyfnder hanesyddol-grefyddol duwiau gwarcheidwadol<\/strong><\/p><p>Dosbarth duwiau gwarcheidwadol yw un o&#8217;r meysydd hynaf o addoliad duwiau \u00e2 swyddogaeth arbenigol. Daw&#8217;r tystiolaethau cynharaf o Mesopotamia: Ninurta fel duw gwarcheidwadol Nippur, Marduk fel duw gwarcheidwadol Babilon, Asshur fel duw gwarcheidwadol Asyria.<\/p><p>Mae&#8217;r cysyniad o&#8217;r duw gwarcheidwadol trefol (poliuchos yn Roegaidd) yn ymestyn ar draws pob diwylliant uwch \u00e2 threfn drefol, o Athena fel duwies warcheidwadol Athen, dros Quirinus, Mars a Iau yn Rhufain, hyd at Inari fel duw gwarcheidwadol cynhaeaf reis Japan.<\/p><p>O safbwynt ffenomenoleg grefyddol, mae duwiau gwarcheidwadol yn wahanol i uwch-dduwiau am fod ganddynt swyddogaeth benodol: nid ydynt yn gyfrifol am greu&#8217;r byd na chynnal cydbwysedd cosmig, ond am faes penodol y mae angen ei ddiogelu.<\/p><p><span data-nosnippet>Gall y maes hwn fod yn ddinas, alwedigaeth, cyfnod bywyd, gr\u0175p o bobl neu weithgaredd. Mae Cailleach yr Albanaidd yn dduwies hynafol neu ffigwr ysbryd sy&#8217;n gwylio dros ddefaid, gaeaf a thirwedd mynyddig, un ddychrynllyd ond angenrheidiol.<\/p><p>Mae Vesta y Rufeinaidd yn amddiffyn t\u00e2n yr aelwyd a threfn gyhoeddus; y Vestal\u00efaid oedd ei offeiriadesau. Mae Ganesha yr Hind\u0175aidd yn warchodwr dechreuadau a threchwr rhwystrau; mae pob menter bwysig yn dechrau gyda&#8217;i addoliad.<\/p><div><p><strong>Enghreifftiau o ddiwylliannau eraill<\/strong><\/p><p>Nid oes gan y traddodiad Iddewig gysyniad datblygedig o dduw gwarcheidwadol yn yr ystyr amldduwiaethol, ond mae ganddo&#8217;r <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"Angel a briodolir iddo warchod person unigol.\" tabindex=\"0\">angylion gwarcheidiol<\/span> cyfatebol yn swyddogaethol (malakhe ha-sharet), sy&#8217;n gysylltiedig \u00e2 phersonau, lleoedd neu dasgau unigol.
