Spojuje se v n\u00ed prastar\u00fd zem\u011bd\u011blsk\u00fd kult, p\u0159ejat\u00e9 \u0159eck\u00e9 p\u0159edstavy a m\u00fdty i konkr\u00e9tn\u00ed spole\u010densk\u00e1 a politick\u00e1 funkce ve m\u011bst\u011b. Byla z\u00e1rove\u0148 bohyn\u00ed pole i bohyn\u00ed s pevnou \u00falohou ve struktu\u0159e \u0159\u00edmsk\u00e9 spole\u010dnosti.<\/p><p>St\u00e1tn\u00ed v\u00fdznam Ceres lze vysledovat na z\u00e1sobov\u00e1n\u00ed hlavn\u00edho m\u011bsta obil\u00edm, kter\u00e9 se s rostouc\u00edm po\u010dtem obyvatel stalo trvalou politickou z\u00e1le\u017eitost\u00ed.<\/p><p>Plebej\u0161t\u00ed edilov\u00e9, spojen\u00ed s aventinskou <span class=\"iwg-fachbegriff\" data-tooltip=\"Svat\u00e9 m\u00edsto zasv\u011bcen\u00e9 uct\u00edv\u00e1n\u00ed bo\u017estva.\" tabindex=\"0\">svatyn\u00ed<\/span>, mimo jin\u00e9 dohl\u00ed\u017eeli na obchod s obil\u00edm. Jm\u00e9no tedy p\u0159\u00edmo ozna\u010duje Ceres jako moc, kter\u00e1 nech\u00e1v\u00e1 rostliny, a zejm\u00e9na obil\u00ed, r\u016fst.<\/p><p>Tato pr\u016fhledn\u00e1 etymologie je z religionistick\u00e9ho hlediska pou\u010dn\u00e1. Ukazuje, \u017ee Ceres byla svou podstatou funk\u010dn\u00edm bo\u017estvem, jeho\u017e jm\u00e9no pojmenov\u00e1valo jeho \u00fakol. Takov\u00e1 mluv\u00edc\u00ed jm\u00e9na boh\u016f jsou ve staro\u0159\u00edmsk\u00e9m n\u00e1bo\u017eenstv\u00ed b\u011b\u017en\u00e1 a nazna\u010duj\u00ed, \u017ee mnoh\u00e1 bo\u017estva byla p\u016fvodn\u011b t\u011bsn\u011b v\u00e1z\u00e1na na ur\u010ditou oblast p\u016fsobnosti.<\/p><p>Od jm\u00e9na <em>Ceres<\/em> je odvozeno adjektivum, kter\u00e9 se objevuje v n\u00e1zvu sv\u00e1tku <em>Cerialia<\/em>, stejn\u011b jako slovo <em>cerealis<\/em>, od kter\u00e9ho se dodnes odvozuj\u00ed ozna\u010den\u00ed pro obiln\u00e9 v\u00fdrobky.<\/p><p>Tento jazykov\u00fd p\u0159esah ukazuje, jak pevn\u011b z\u016fstala Ceres spojena s pojmem obil\u00ed. Krom\u011b toho se objevuj\u00ed makovice, rohatka hojnosti, ko\u0161 s plody a p\u0159\u00edle\u017eitostn\u011b i pochode\u0148.<\/p><p>Pochode\u0148 odkazuje na mytologick\u00fd okruh p\u0159evzat\u00fd od \u0159eck\u00e9 D\u00e9m\u00e9t\u00e9r, v n\u011bm\u017e bohyn\u011b s pochodn\u011bmi hled\u00e1 svou uloupenou dceru.<\/p><p>Rohatka hojnosti a ko\u0161 s plody symbolizuj\u00ed \u00farodu a hojnost, m\u00e1k pak pole, na nich\u017e vedle obil\u00ed rostl i m\u00e1k. Ceres nen\u00ed zobrazov\u00e1na jako mlad\u00e1 d\u00edvka, n\u00fdbr\u017e jako dosp\u011bl\u00e1, d\u00e1vaj\u00edc\u00ed postava. Ceres ji zoufale hled\u00e1 s pochodn\u011bmi a p\u0159i tom zanedb\u00e1v\u00e1 sv\u00e9 \u00fakoly, tak\u017ee zem\u011b p\u0159est\u00e1v\u00e1 b\u00fdt \u00farodn\u00e1 a hroz\u00ed hladomor.<\/p><p>Nakonec je uzav\u0159ena dohoda, podle n\u00ed\u017e Proserpina str\u00e1v\u00ed \u010d\u00e1st roku v podsv\u011bt\u00ed a \u010d\u00e1st u matky.
